Free Texture Map – metal_A
I’ve decided to give away a free, high-quality, tileable texture map.
While creating some banner ads for Texture Exporter, I was searching for some nice textures to use as a background image. I found a few nice ones from cgtextures. If you’re unfamiliar with that website, I highly recommend checking it out because it is a fantastic resource for texture maps. Despite the fact that I had a couple textures from cgtextures that I was happy with, I needed something more custom and tileable.
I really enjoy taking textural photos of all kinds of different materials and objects. Thankfully, I found just what I wanted after looking through some recent photos that I took while visiting a fire station with my family. I cropped and edited the photo to make tileable using Lightroom and Photoshop. The only issue, was that it was a bright sunny day so there is an obvious light direction in the texture (ideally, textures should be photographed on a cloudy/overcast day). Regardless, I figured it was still worth editing and sharing with you. The texture is a high-quality, tileable, 2048 x 2048 PSD file. The file was set up using Texture Exporter, but you do not need it to open or edit the file. It only includes the diffuse texture for now, though I may add a normal, specular and gloss map at a later time.
Feel free to use the texture however you like – just don’t sell it. You’re not obligated to, but if you do end up using it, I’d appreciate a credit, or mention. Please share this page with others, and if you work with texture maps in Photoshop, be sure to check out my texture map export tool Texture Exporter.
If there is enough interest, I will most likely create more to share, so please let me know!
